2022/23

Pauline, Graphite On Paper, 12”x 15”, April 2023

In Pauline’s portrait, I wanted to push myself with a light study. I took this wonderful picture of my friend Pauline at a gathering where she was playing with the light of a candle. I was inspired by the chiarscuro of Renaissance paintings and wanted to create my own rendering in graphite.

Hand In Hand, Graphite on Paper, 10”x10”, March 2023

I love seeing how people place themselves while riding public transport. It shows the way people carry themselves, they might be fidgeting, holding themselves or someone they care about. I think that hands show how we carry ourselves. In Hand In Hand, I wanted to present up close studies of peoples hands on the tram in Bordeaux, showing the different ways people hold themselves while going from point A to B. I hope to keep creating these studies and make this an ongoing series.

Zoom In Series, Oil on board, 10”x10”each, November 2022

Working with the autopotrait. I wished to continue the practice of cropping that I created in the previous series.
By cropping of the portraits, I wish to bring the viewer closer and in a more intimate realm of the subject.

Louise, Alya & Pauline, Oil on board, 10”x10” each, October 2022

At the beginning of my semester in France, I took photographs while conversing with a group of exchange students. With this series, I wanted to combine realism with abstraction, playing with blocking and brushstrokes.
Using the movement of the brush stroke to reflect how we position and present ourselves during conversation.
